Playwork Sessions
A weekly theatre practice group for ages 16+, led by writer/director Ant Stones
Details
Dates: Every Friday from 9th January - 27th March (except half term)
Time: 6 - 8pm
Location: The Courtyard Arts Centre, Edgar Street, Hereford
Price: £65 per term plus plays (ordered by the participant)
What to expect
Facilitated by Ant, participants sight read plays and discuss the text. Additionally, some scenes are worked as if the group were a company of actors in a rehearsal process.
Participants learn vocal techniques for stronger characterisation skills, increase their repertoire and their knowledge of both classical and contemporary plays.
this term’s plays
Art - Yasmina Reza
The purchase of a controversial ‘masterpiece’ draws three men to question their long standing friendship. The play considers what male friendship is and the importance of these relationships.
The Homecoming - Harold Pinter
Pinter’s play of 1964 focuses on 2 generations of men in a working class family. Teddy brings his American wife Ruth to meet his family in London and find that she is perhaps better suited to life in their chauvinist, brutal world than she is in his.
Plays 3 - Richard Bean
Bean is a prolific writer whose works include Toast (1999), One Man, Two Gunners (2011) and Made in Dagenham (2014).
The Playboy of the Western World - JM Synge
Recently performed at The National Theatre and starring Nicola Coughlan, Eanna Hardwicke & Siobhán McSweeney.
Pegeen Flaherty’s life is turned upside down when a young man walks into her pub claiming that he’s killed his father. Instead of being shunned, the killer Christy Mahon becomes a local hero, until a second man unexpectedly arrives on the scene.
